Let's talk about stacks - cymbal stacks and sound effects e.g. Meinl, Paiste, Sabian, Zildjian HD
I took this video because of the questions, which occurred in my DW drum solo video, which you can find on my youtube chanel. I describe the double china stack at the right position, give tips and inspiration for different stack sounds, effect hat sounds and even DIY tips to build you own X-Hat holder from a normal cymbal arm! Check it out and find your sound. If you put two cymbals above each other - this is called stacking. The sound of cymbal stacks is that variable than the different cymbals you can buy. The contact area between the cymbals is very crucial to affect the sound. The higher the area, the shorter and muted the tone. Smaller cymbals of course producing a shorter stack sound and so on. Be creative, try your cymbals to get the sound you want. You can of course also stack two crashes, a splash over a china or two splashes etc. ... The lower cymbal do not has to be larger than the cymbal stacked on top.
