Only three days until the greatest party on Earth Rio Carnival 2015 starting Friday, February 13th and ending Wednesday, February 18, 2015. To provide you with the best coverage on YouTube of Rio Carnival 2015, Paul Hodge arrived in Rio on February 5, 2015 so he could cover the seldom seen events leading up to the official Rio Carnival Celebration. By tradition, on the weekend before Rio Carnival, many Rio neighborhoods host Bloco (block) parties to celebrate the coming of Rio Carnival. During Carnival, there are over 400 official Bloco parties. On Saturday & Sunday, February 7 & 8, 2015, Paul covered four Bloco parties in diverse Rio neighborhoods. According to edited excerpts from a February 9, 2015, Rio Times article by Jay Forte: Of the 456 licensed blocos in Rio, 111 happened this last weekend (February 7 & 8th) drawing 800,000+ celebrants into the revelry. Most of the authorized blocos this last weekend were concentrated in the Zona Sul (South Zone) and Zona Norte (North Zone), where about thirty were held in each. Since 2012 the city has made an effort to distribute the blocos more evenly around the city, slowly moving more from Zona Sul to other areas. On Saturday, February 7th, early in the morning, the parade of Céu na Terra, in Santa Teresa was held which Paul Hodge covered. The gathering started at the Plaza Odylo and the parade marched along to the Largo das Neves. The Leblon Bloco Imaginou which Paul covered started at about 10am at the Rua José Linhares. In the afternoon on at about 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 7th the massive Ipanema Bloco “Simpatia É Quase”. The Ipanema Bloco was covered by Paul. It i sone of Rio’s biggest Blocos and attracted over 150,000+ celebrants. The starting point for the Bloco was on Teixeira de Melo Street with the bloco path following along thhe beach front road, Avenida Vieira Souto. On Sunday, February 8th, at about 11:00 am, Rio Centro’s Bloco da Preta, which previously took place on Rio Branco Avenue, took place for the first time on Avenida Presidente Vargas. Over 400,000+ celebrants attended !!
