Lolita, formerly known as "Tokitae"...is a female orca from the L Pod of southern resident orcas. She has been in captivity at the Miami Seaquarium in Florida since September 24, 1970. Lolita was stolen from the wild while swimming with her family on August 8, 1970 in Penn Cove, Puget Sound, Washington. She was only 4 years old. Lolita was one of 7 young orcas sold to marine mammal parks around the world. This was part of a capture of over 80 whales at the time. Lolita was purchased by Miami Seaquarium vet Dr. Jesse White for $20,000. As of 2022, Lolita is the 2nd oldest female orca in captivity behind “Corky” at Seaworld in San Diego, CA.
