Director Matthew Heineman took home the Best Director Award and Special Jury Award for Cinematography (with co-DP Matt Porwoll) in the U.S. Documentary competition of the just-concluded 2015 Sundance Film Festival. NFS sat down with Heineman at Sundance to talk about his approach to documenting a world of meth labs, machine guns, bulletproof vests, and staggering human loss.
