NSW police say they aborted a pursuit shortly before a collision that killed four people, including a baby, in Canberra. Police were conducting traffic stops at Queanbeyan about 10pm (AEDT) on Saturday when a vehicle travelled past them at an excessive speed. Police pursued the car, a stolen Mazda 626, and crossed the border into the ACT. When the Mazda ran a red light the officers stopped their pursuit. Shortly after the vehicle careered through another red light and struck a family car, killing a 33-year-old man and 29-year-old woman and a four-month-old baby boy at the intersection of Canberra Avenue and the Monaro Highway exit ramp at Narrabundah. The 23-year-old driver of the Mazdawas taken to Canberra Hospital where he later died. His 17-year-old female passenger remains in Canberra Hospital in a critical condition. NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said the young officers were traumatised by witnessing the tragedy. ▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄ For complaints about NSW Police Force.
