Inaugural visit of Air Mauritius Airbus A350-900 XWB from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) Mumbai, India. . Originally, Airbus A330-900 NEO was scheduled to operate Port Louis (MRU) - Mumbai (BOM) route, but due to delay in delivery by Airbus, Air Mauritius replaced their aging Airbus A340s / Airbus A330s operating on this route with their fairly new Airbus A350-900 XWB. . The inaugural flight was operated on 5th April, 2019 by 3B-NBQ, 1.4 year old airframe, delivered to Air Mauritius in November, 2017. . The airframe is named after the 2nd highest mountain in Mauritius, "Pieter Both". . With this flight, Air Mauritius becomes the 4th operator of Airbus A350-900 to Mumbai Airport after Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines. . The Airbus A350 XWB is a family of long-range, twin-engine wide-body jet airliners developed by European aerospace manufacturer Airbus. The A350 is the first Airbus aircraft with both fuselage and wing structures made primarily of carbon fiber reinforced polymer. . Its variants seat 280 to 366 passengers in typical three-class seating layouts. The A350 is positioned to succeed the A340 and to compete with the Boeing 787 and 777. . As of February 2019, Airbus had received 852 orders for A350s from 47 customers worldwide. . The prototype A350 first flew on 14 June 2013 from Toulouse, France. . On 15 January 2015, the A350-900 entered service with its launch operator Qatar Airways, and the A350-1000 on 24 February 2018 with the same airline. . The airbus A350-900 is powered by 2 Rolls Royce RR Trent XWB engines. Each engine weighs 7277 kg, costs $35 Million and produces 84,200 lbf of thrust. .
