STADIA THE TRUTH OF IT ALL AND WHAT THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW HD
welcome back to technoflux where we give you tech news every single day. today we are talking about googles stadia streaming service. a quick recap for people who do not know what stadia is. Stadia is a platform for streaming video games. You dont have a box like traditional gaming rather you stream your games directly from a data centre onto your screen. now that we know what stadia is lets talk about the features coming with it. with stadia launching in 2019 you will be able to stream games up to 4K at 60fps with full HDR and later on at 8K 120fps with full HDR. You will be able to play games as fast as 5 seconds after hitting the play button. You will be able to share states and play games your favourite streamers are playing straight from their live stream. When needing assistance in a video game google assist can help you instantly via google assist button on the stadia controller. You can use stadia with your existing controllers but the benefit of googles stadia controller is the alleged lower latency. The controller connects through wifi directly to the data centre where all the processing is done which allows inputs to be made faster. The controller also has the additional buttons such as google assist, sharing and share state. This is all great on paper but there are many challenges when streaming video games. Game streaming is often compared to netflix but these are false equivalents. streaming a video is not the same as streaming a source that requires computing on one end and the delivery of inputs within a time frame that doesn’t ruin the experience. One of the major challenges will be internet speeds not being fast enough to support the claims that google is making. With the average speed in North America being as high as 30mb/s. Another lingering question is what will this cost? and will we have to buy games as well as paying for the streaming service. these details have yet to surface and until then its probably best to not make any assumptions. As you can tell I am skeptical about STADIA and it all comes within reason as no one has been able to execute it yet as they allegedly claim. I would like to make a simple analogy. WIFI is wireless it is fast and we have had it for years. Yet Ethernet or Hardwiring is still faster. You may ask where im going with this. My point is streaming may be a viable option very soon and certainly inevitably in the future. But having consoles or physical computing done locally is here to stay. It will always be faster and more reliable just as Ethernet is compared to wifi. I have gigabit internet so I will be trying out googles stadia and I will update you all on my thoughts.
