Lil Peep’s mother has said she is proud of everything her son achieved in his short life. Rapper Lil Peep, real name Gustav Åhr, has died at the age of 21, just months after he released his debut album. Following the tragic news, his team have issued a statement on the rapper’s death, including a quote from his mum Liza. Sarah Stennett, the CEO of First Access Entertainment, Lil Peep’s label since 2016, said: ‘I am shocked and heartbroken. I do not believe Peep wanted to die, this is so tragic. He had big goals and dreams for the future which he had shared with me, his team, his family and his friends. He had huge ambition and his career was flourishing.’ Stennett continued: ‘I have spoken to his mother and she asked me to convey that she is very, very proud of him and everything he was able to achieve in his short life. She is truly grateful to the fans and the people who have supported and loved him.’ Lil Peep’s manager Chase Ortega was the first to break the news, tweeting: ‘I’ve been expecting this call for a year. Mother fuck.’ His cause of death has not yet been confirmed; however, fans attending his last concert in Tucson, which never went forward, claim that the rapper died on his tour bus following a suspected overdose. The emo/hip-hop star often spoke about his struggles with depression, cocaine and Xanax addiction in his lyrics, and in an interview last May, he said that he wanted to use his music to save others. Lil Peep told XXL Mag: ‘My goal in music is to save people’s lives like how my life was saved. I was very suicidal and depressed and I was addicted to some drugs and a lot of different artists helped me get out of that with their direct lyrics.
