Drywall Repair - How to Fix a Small Hole in the Wall using California Patch (Part 4) http://www.russolinatzpainting.com In this Drywall repair video, I repair a small hole in the drywall using a California Patch. I use the already cut out piece of drywall as a template, and then create a new piece of drywall that already has the tape on it to patch a hole. I use the Plaster of Paris quick set Mud Pie for the first 2 coats and then regular All Purpose Joint Compound for the remaining 2 Coats. This is just one of many ways to repair a a small drywall hole or patch. By using this method for small drywall patches, you are guaranteed a solid patch because you are using a piece of what the wall is made of and it already has the tape on it. As for the solid patch, if you ever go to pin something in the wall where that spot was previously, it won"t break through as easily like it would if you put a piece of mesh tape and skimmed on top of it a few times. That does work cosmetically, but not structurally. I use a hawk and trowel to transfer the joint compound.
