Hits of the 2000's Piano Medley - A Decade in Pop Music HD
So a while back I did a medley of each year of the 2010’s, with a final medley of the entire decade. And then I thought, hey what if I do one of every decade? So that’s what’s happening. Eventually. These decade medleys take a long time to do, so I’ll be doing smaller medleys in between. But for now, we’re doing the 2000’s. And as with the 2010’s, the songs are generally played in order of what year they were hits. So let’s talk about the music. The 2000’s were a pretty wild time for music. A variety of genres emerged and evolved over the decade. In pop music, you got the pop divas like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, and at the end of the decade Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift (although still country at this point), setting the stage for the 2010’s. Beyoncé of course dominates the decade as well both as Destiny’s Child and as a solo act, and captured the world’s attention as the girlfriend and wife of Jay-Z, who was on a number of hits this decade as well. Other R&B singers like Alicia Keys and Usher also saw massive success in this decade as well. Timbaland is arguably the producer of this decade, producing several hits, especially with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. Pop rock music also became popular as artists like Kelly Clarkson, Michelle Branch, P!nk and Avril Lavigne all saw huge success throughout the decade. The world of hip hop isn’t as exciting as it was in the 90’s, but still had a huge impact, particularly with crunk music and snap music in the mid 2000s. Later in the decade hip hop and pop became a more club music sound, with acts like Black Eyed Peas and Flo Rida scoring massive hits. T-Pain showed the world what could be done with autotune. OutKast scored several great hits before making the ultimate pop/hip-hop crossover hit Hey Ya!, which got everyone to shake it like a Polaroid picture. And of course Dr. Dre’s protégé Eminem becomes an icon of rap music at the start of this decade, before kinda falling off the map for the next several years. And this is the decade where “featuring” became incredibly more common, with several pop acts including a rap verse, or rap songs including a singer on their chorus. Rock music is kind of all over the place here. There’s the post grunge rock of Nickelback, Creed, or 3 Doors Down, which no one really likes anymore. There’s the adult alternative acts like Coldplay, OneRepublic, Maroon 5, and Lifehouse. Nu metal acts like Linkin Park and Evanescence borrowed from rap to make angsty powerful rock. There’s the emo and pop punk acts like Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, My Chemical Romance, and Paramore. And if you were in middle school during the mid 2000’s, you probably listened to them and thought you were the edgiest kid ever. Don’t deny it. And there were a number of great alternative rock bands, like the White Stripes, The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, and The Killers. And bands from the 90’s like Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Gree
