What If Darth Maul Stayed Palpatine's Apprentice - Star Wars Explained HD

What was the ultimate fate of Darth Maul to be if his Sith master Darth Sidious had kept him as an apprentice following his defeat at the hand of Obi-Wan Kenobi? Would Maul have met the same fate as Count Dooku or would he have joined with Vader and Sidious to rule the galaxy.
