Durham College Men's Soccer Welcomes Three New Recruits HD
Lords add offensive threats to men’s soccer roster OSHAWA, Ont. – This season the Durham College men’s soccer team is looking to make it back to the OCAA final four and the recent commitment of three recruits is a positive step in that direction. Head coach Dave Ashfield welcomed Antonio Maragozidis, Ryan Cullen and Jeremy Bangala to the Lords at the team’s letter of intent signing. “As always, I’m excited to get new recruits in to build our program,” said Ashfield. “We’re also looking forward to fielding some of the best players from within the region here at home this fall.” Bangala, from Pickering, comes to Durham from St. Charles Garnier Catholic School. A striker, his most recent experience has been with St. Charles Garnier’s squad, where he was captain, as well as with the Ajax Pumas in the Central Soccer League (CSL) and Ajax Boys 1998 in the Ontario Youth Soccer League (OYSL). “I selected Durham because of the program’s reputation,” said Bangala. “I’m a striker so I hope to score a lot of goals and help the team achieve its’ goals.” Cullen, also from Pickering, attended Pickering High School. The 6’3 centre back has his most recent experience at the club level with the Whitby Iroquois Soccer Club, where he continues to be a leader with a strong soccer mind and presence on the field. “I am excited to join the team this fall,” said Cullen. “I’m an athletic player, good in the air and pretty talkative so I hope to contribute on the pitch right away.” The third recruit brought in by coach Ashfield was Maragozidis, a striker from Whitby. From Father Leo J. Austin, he has averaged a minimum of 10 goals per season, won the LOSSA championship twice, been an OFSAA semifinalist and was named an All Catholic School MVP in back-to-back seasons. His most recent club experience has been with the FC Durham Academy. “Durham will be a good fit for me,” said Maragozidis. “I’ve played with a lot of these guys with my club team at FC Durham and I know how they play so it is not much of a change for me so I feel like I will fit right in.” Coach Ashfield will continue his recruitment in preparation for the 2016 season, which will begin in early September. The Lords training/selection camp will take place in late August.
