Jerry Lawler and Andy Kaufman make history on Late Night with David Letterman on July 28, 1982. Dave was not in on the plan; Kaufman called to apologize and let him in on that the performance was all a work. To my knowledge, Letterman is one of few people with whom Andy broke kayfabe with regarding the incident.
