Rapping about Chemical Reactions to review for the big unit test in our Honors Physical Science Classroom at Minnetonka High School. Lyrics: It’s the biggest event of the entire semester I thought that if I rap, then you’ll crush tomorrow’s Test Or at least give you chance to have a worthless distraction Cause this bow tie guy loves his chemical reactions If it starts with two reactants and they’re both elemental It’s a synthesis reaction and they’re each complemental The two will become one, and a compound will form And if it’s exothermic, it will start to feel warm Sometimes on the left, you’ll find one lonely compound Decomposes when it’s heated, products are found Each element is listed when it makes something new But watch out for diatomics, with a subscript of two Anything that’s made of C, H and O Combusts with oxygen if a spark makes it go The reaction’s kinda “lit” and the flame just makes it hotter The products on the right are CO2 and some water Single Replacement has a special little twist, To know if it goes you need an element list The activity series, unless it shows up on the top The elements won’t switch, you can write NR and stop Once you figure that out, then it’s all about the charge Now be careful on this step, because the penalty’s large The subscripts only care if the new compound is stable You gotta look up all these ions on the periodic table A compound plus a compound means a double replacement Write each ion and its charge, down below in “the basement” The anions swap places and new compounds are made On the right you’ll have your products with new subscripts displayed Finally, one more step, for your mass to be conserved Count up all the atoms for each compound observed The number on the left should be the same as the right Write the coefficients in, multiply and rewrite. I bet you never thought that I could rap to a beat Well you were right, this was awkward. But it’s still more fun than worksheets
