furrow irrigation of cotton in Mississippi County, Arkansas summer 2010 HD
This shows the technique of furrow irrigation a/k/a Poly-Pipe irrigation of cotton crops in Mississippi County, Arkansas in the summer of 2010. This method has the advantage of being able to water an entire field whereas a center pivot always misses some areas unless the field is a perfect circle. The furrow method has the disadvantage of much higher initial cost as precision leveling of the field is a necessary prerequisite. The field shown here is part of U.S.D.A. farm no. 2465. This farm does both furrow irrigation and center pivot irrigation. There are some videos from 2012 showing the center pivot on the farm in action. For reason not fully understood, the center pivot part of the farm so far typically produces more per acre even though it has 21 acres that are not irrigated. On a couple of occasions the leveled part has produced more, but usually, the center pivot part does better.
