Jefferson Cove to Mosquito Creek Hike, Pacific Ocean - Washington State HD
Jefferson Cove, located about one mile north of where the Hoh River meets the ocean is a magical place, where you are immersed in a natural world, unaltered by man. To get there you must wait for low tide when crossing slippery seaweed strewn boulders, but the destination is well worth the effort. The beach at Jefferson Cove is over a mile long stretch of fine sand, but does not have any really good camping spots that are well above a high tide surge, so if you would like to camp there, you really need to pay attention to high tide levels and the weather and choose your camping spot wisely. Continuing on to Mosquito Creek involves a several mile long overland route, with hanging ladders and ropes. It does not require technical climbing skills, but does require good physical fitness and balance. Much of the trail is in good shape, but you will encounter several muddy and slippery sections. Past Mosquito Creek is a world class sand beach that continues for miles. Spending the day strolling along this exceptional beach on a sunny day is one of the most enjoyable wilderness experiences available anywhere.
