Most people ask me how did I removed the dead zone in the steering wheel (potentiometer) which usually occurs when using a ready-made USB joystick. I removed the dead zone in the potentiometer using a microcontroller. I input the potentiometer output into the microcontroller and removed that dead zone by using simple calculation. then that corrected output from the microcontroller was input back to the joystick. In here, I used inbuilt ADC on the microcontroller to input the potentiometer output into the microcontroller and A simple resistor ladder DAC to output the corrected output from the microcontroller. Also there is a another way to remove the dead zone. By using a microcontroller based USB joystick, instead of the readymade USB joystick, you can easily remove that dead zone. That microcontroller based USB joystick has 6 directions and 24 buttons. The only thing is, you have to familiar with microcontroller programming. But there is no need of writing codes and only program the given code into the microcontroller. You can use ATmega8, ATmega16 or ATmega238 microcontroller.
