Entertainment on the Yangtze River 2004 - China Travel Channel
The Princess Elaine owned by China Regal Cruises was considered one of the best ships on the Yangtze River. The captain and his ship were the first to be allowed to pass the locks of the Three Gorges Dam at the inauguration ceremony. Originally the ship was one of twelve ships, built in the former GDR for the Volga region. Three of them were resold to China. In the meantime, Princess Elaine is out of service. A tour of the engine room showed the complex technology required to operate such a ship. However, the dining room for the crew is much simpler than the rooms for the passengers. Since atomized river pearls were considered to be particularly pure, their powder was not only mixed in skin creams but also eaten as medicine. Aloe, wolfberry and wheat flowers are used for the face masks. A short introduction to the landscape and the problems around the new Three Gorges Dam prepare us for the visit of this gigantic construction. In the evening we are entertained with folklore. We see the dances or music of the Chinese minorities. Also, the passengers perform some sketches.
