Lake Nillahcootie yellowbelly fishing fail HD

Lake Nillahcootie is located on the Broken River between Benalla and Mansfield on the Midland Highway and is a fantastic place to go fishing for yellowbelly. Unfortunately it does get quite windy there, particularly when the strong southerly winds come through. On windy days, I usually head somewhere else. When I was a kid, Lake Nillahcootie was a fantastic redfin fishery. During the 1990s Victorian fisheries commenced stocking yellowbelly into Lake Nillahcootie, which continues to this day. There are still redfin in Lake Nillahcootie, and people fishing for yellowbelly often catch them as a welcome by-catch, although the numbers of redfin are not as great as they use to be and most people heading to Lake Nillahcootie fishing are targeting yellowbelly and not redfin. Murray cod stockings have also had a positive impact on the fishing in Lake Nillahcootie with some very large cod getting caught from time to time. During the 2010 floods, a 120cm Murray cod washed up on the apron, or the overflow of Lake Nillahcootie. Many yellowbelly went over the wall and ended up in the Broken River below the lake, however this large Murray cod was too big and got stuck and unfortunately died as a result. If fishing for yellowbelly in Lake Nillahcootie, try using small yabbies as bait, or worms. The water in Lake Nillahcootie is usually quite murky, although in this video I make comment on how unusually clear it is. If it stays this way, trolling medium sized lures might work well on Lake Nillahcootie yellowbelly this spring time.
