Pallomeri - First ESN Song (Erasmus Student Network )

PALLOMERI, the legendary, nearly lost, ESN song (Erasmus Student Network) (Text from ESN History Book 2003, Newsletters and the August monthly report 1999) (Video belongs to Erasmus Student Network) First of all, it’s important to know that "PALLOMERI" is a Finnish word with a really funny meaning: it is the place, filled up with many small coloured balls where kids go playing in the shopping centres, hamburger restaurants or ferries- a sea of balls. But during the AGM IX in Graz, Austria, 1998, the word got a new, international meaning: Pan-European Association Leading Local Organisations Making Erasmus Richer Inside. This suggestion was from Matteo Baggio from Italy. This PALLOMERI takes on the one hand care of the funny stuff of ESN; parties, dancers, courses of regional dance like Sirtaki and everything related to it and on the other hand it is what every ESN-active makes out of it, it can be the feeling you have when you are doing the things you do for your section or in for the organisation, it can be the list of the new friends you have from all over the Europe. For the AGM X in Aarhus, 1999, the idea was to develop the original form of PALLOMERI in order to get an association closer to the needs of the participants coming from all over Europe. But from Graz on, PALLOMERI has also been a new way of saying "hello" or to say "goodbye" between the ESN-actives. New different ways of using it are also pretty familiar: "Might the PALLOMERI be with you", or "Have a nice PALLOMERI!" are actually common forms among friends. At the Board-Meeting in Parma in autum 1998 there was created a video. In this you see the International Board (this means in this times the Nrs) having fun. The official PALLOMERI-logo of ESN International comes from the section of Åbo Akademi in Turku, Finland. It was originally designed to be a patch for the overalls that Finnish students traditionally wear. As other ESN-sections got interested in the logo, it was given to the public use of Erasmus Student Network.
