Shop Built Large Format CNC Router

22.03.2013
This Is a short video of my newly built CNC Router. I can machine an area 68" wide and 101" long and it has 12" total in the Z. Rapids in X and Y are just under 900 ipm, very pleased with this but I usually have them turned down into the 700 ipm range because that is fast enough for my needs. This is the fourth router that I have built. I used my older small unit to machine all of the parts to create this large format machine. The bulk of the machine is very heavy gauge steel with the aluminum parts being machined from 0.8" aluminum plate. I am running Mach3 with a Gecko 540B drive 48v power supply 3/8" shaft nema 23 steppers and rack and pinion on the X and Y axis. all of these parts were purchased from the great guys at cncrouterparts.com, highly recommended to anyone thinking of building a machine. While I still have switches and cable tracks to install, I am using this machine now on a daily basis. This little video is showing the finish machining of a headboard for a bedroom suite, speed is set to 240 ipm for this particular routine.
