Living in Nova Scotia Canada, and working at his family owned meat shop, Lou builds all sort of rides during his free time including his previous rock crawling Toyota truck. But his most notable build thus far has been Betty. A rock crawling rat rod with a dodge truck cab, Ford hood, and an aggressive attitude. Sporting a 545 cubic inch big block ford engine fueled by propane, this thing straight hauls across the rugged Canadian terrain. Lou started with just the cab and axles and worked from there. His original plan was to take the old truck cab and put it on a toyota truck frame but decided the toyota truck was too nice to tear apart. So he decided to build a rat rodded rock crawler instead. Lou got to work, gradually adding more and more strength and modifications to help gain as much climbing ability as possible. This was done so with a c6 transmission and a hero transfer case to harness the 627 horsepower from the propane fueled engine. The propane fuel injection system on this rig is really quite a genius idea for an all angle vehicle so it will never have a lack of fuel flow no matter how steep the rock walls are. Betty’s suspension system was set up with a single triangulated four link front and rear with EMF heim joints and wall DOM link arms. Along with king coil overs on all four corners and king bump stops on the front. Which of course had to be complemented by Cut 44” boggers on double beadlock rims to provide traction and pinion brakes on each of the massive rockwell axles to stop the heavy pig when she gets aggressive. Betty is also equipped with a 2 inch DOM roll cage which blocks the view through the rear window. So Lou installed a modern back up camera and a monitor in the cab to know what’s going on behind him on trails. And As you’ll notice in the footage, Lou keeps ear protection in the cab because the ear splitting intensity of the engine. The only exhaust system it has are two custom headers that were handbuilt by Lou which took over 30 hours to make. It took Lou 6 years to completely build betty from start to finish. But Lou says it was well worth it in the end because it puts a smile on his face knowing that he built an entire functioning vehicle by himself with no prior professional fabrication or mechanical experience. True blue rat rod builders like Lou are what keeps the Rat Rod culture interesting so I’ll put the link to his instagram page in the description so you can check it out for y
