Pawprints On My Heart

Pawprints On My Heart by Don Puryear Recently, our little yorkie Spike passed away. We had 13 wonderful years together! I wrote this song to help work through the intense grief, and indeed the words have brought me comfort. My hope is that others who experience the loss of a pet may find comfort in these words as well. The lyrics speak to a universal experience, the bond between humans and the pets that truly become part of our family. PAWPRINTS ON MY HEART The time has come, my little friend, when we must say goodbye. We always knew this day would come. So let’s be brave – or try. My heart is breaking. So is yours, though deep inside, we both know that one day soon, we’ll meet again. Still, how it hurts to let you go! *************************** You brought me joy and happiness, and showed me loyalty. My true companion, faithful friend, you are my family. You’ve trusted me with life and care. And now you can depend on me -- I’m here to see you through this final step, our journey’s end. *************************** For one last time, I’ll hold you close, and tell you how I’ll miss you. I’ll cuddle and caress you and then one last time, I’ll kiss you. So close your eyes and be set free into God’s care above you. And as you enter Heaven’s gate, you’ll hear me say, “I love you.” *************************** CHORUS: I’ll cherish till we meet again, each moment, from the start, the memories you made with me, your pawprints on my heart.
