Family Trip || Failaka Island || Kuwait #جزيره #فليكا #الكويت# HD
#Salmiya To failaka island# Failaka was a welcome if somewhat bizarre part of what would have been an otherwise boring weekend in Kuwait. Firstly no-one in the hotels seemed to know about the place, and then anyone who did urged me not to go. Purchasing the tickets was quite funny, I walked all the way along the waterfront to the kptc office...which looked derelict and empty...to my surprise there was a man in the corner and sold me the tickets for 2.5 KD each way for the following morning at 10am. Get there a bit early maybe 15 mins max. Ferry journey itself isn’t nice, squashed in and no real shade so best to sit on the lower deck part and come prepared with juice/snacks etc. the island-I could talk a lot about it but the highlight was walking for literally hours alone without seeing anyone through entire bombed out villages and mosques...schools...it was eerie and a dream for any photographer. I stumbled here most accidentally by walking straight past the ‘zoo’ and ‘lake/hotel resort’ which is about 15mins from the ferry on a straight road, and wandering to the right into the abandoned houses. ask for directions when getting off. The school is on the left hand side when takin this route but before reaching the ‘resort’. The village/resort place seems quite nice actually and food and drink can be purchased here and possibly rental scooters. The tank graveyard is far away and only really accessible by the tour which this hotel runs, unfortunately this ‘tour’ is only a 2 minute stop when driving you back to the ferry for 2 is but still very much worth seeing. I didn’t get to see anything historical but as far as abandoned buildings, shot up cars and empty if somewhat dirty beaches I saw many. There’s not much to do in Kuwait so this was a highlight.
