All time is based on UTC time and the /etc/localtime file links to the timezone offset in /usr/share/zoneinfo. There is normally another file as not all programs use this now and you also have to check /etc/sysconfig/clok or /etc/timezone. For individuals we can set a time sone with teh TZ variable. Then we take a look at the locale and the command locale and see what the effect is on even file sorting when the locale is changed.
