Flame Thrower.22 Magnum Derringer HD
A quick review of the Hi-Standard .22 Magnum Derringer. High Standard Derringers A .22 caliber or .22 Magnum caliber Over / Under double action only derringer with 3.50"barrels. They are found with three different types of markings and three different design series. Type 1 Markings are found on early models which are marked "HI-STANDARD" / "DERRINGER" and have the EAGLE logo on the left side of the barrel. These models were marked "D-100" for the .22 caliber and "DM-101" for the .22 Magnum on the left side of the barrel. Date range 1962 to about 1967. Type 2 Markings are found on later models were marked "HI- STANDARD" / "DERRINGER" and had the TRIGGER logo. The early .22 caliber models were marked D-100 and the later .22 caliber models beginning about 1969 were marked D-101 on the left side of the barrel. The .22 Magnum models were marked DM-101on the left side of the barrel. Date range 1967 to about 1970. Type 3 Markings are found on the latest models were marked simply "DERRINGER" without Hl STANDARD, or either logo. These models were also marked D-101 for the .22 caliber and DM-101 for the .22 Magnum on the left side of the barrel. Date range about 1970 to 1984 There were three different design series: D-100, D-101, and DM-101. The D-100 series was the first to appear and was used on the .22 LR chambered derringers The DM-101 series began with the introduction of the .22 WMR caliber models and a few parts differed from the D-100 design series; Barrel and actuator assembly, "L" frame, Hammer assembly, and Striker. The D-101 series which appeared in 1969 changed the .22 LR caliber models to share more parts with the DM-101 Series. Only the Barrel and actuator assembly was different between the D-101 and DM-101. Serial numbers: included with the other High Standard handgun serial numbers from about 1,261,903 until 2,500,464 when the number format changed to a "D" prefix beginning with serial number D 01001 in July 1975 through D12,047 for the Hamden derringers. E. Hartford derringers run from D 13000 in April 1977 through D96098 in July 1984. Near the end of production, a "V" suffix was added to some visually impaired guns, which were sold at discount. These guns were guaranteed to function properly, but the company would not allow them to be returned for appearance reasons. Numerous guns earlier serial numbers, held back because of visual flaws, were also marked with the "V" and were shipped in 1984. The earliest V suffix gun found to date is D 25,945V.
