In the 1970s, Lauren Copley was a successful teenage recording artist in South Africa, receiving two Gold discs and representing her country when she was just 15 years old at the 1973 Tokyo Music festival.At age 11, she became the youngest recording artist in South Africa when her debut record album Seven years older than four was released.In her teens, Lauren Copley had several hit songs including Flower of Life, Kentucky Blues and It’s too late now. She received Gold discs for the latter two hits.Despite being on the brink of international stardom, Lauren became disillusioned with the pressures of stardom, lack of privacy and commercial exploitation. She quit singing as a career at age 20, to the dismay of her fans.Lauren channelled her creative talents into another passion, writing. She has been a successful award-winning professional journalist and editor for more than 30 years.Aside from a few limited singing performances, Lauren’s recorded voice has largely been silent for decades.Now, 40 years later, her melodic, liquid gold voice is being showcased on her first CD album, entitled Chrysalis.The release of the CD was prompted by repeated requests over several years from many people who still remember and enjoy her music.
