SCUD RACE(SEGA SUPER-GT) BEGINNER-NIGHT COURSE by MSO-10-LIE

SCUD RACE(SEGA SUPER-GT) is the first title released with the 3D CG board "MODEL 3",developed jointly by Sega and Lockheed-Martin. There are three versions in this title; the old version that can only be played with deluxe cabinets, the new version that came with the twin cabinets enabling VS play, and the PLUS which was released one year later adding the super-beginner course with totally different atmosphere (which happened to be the most difficult) in which you drive in a toy box. The characteristics of the machines changed greatly in the new version, with "drifting acceleration" which allows you to accelerate while maintaining the drift angle. Although impossible in the real situation, this adds the exciting dynamism to the title. This made, however, the machines very easy to spin, and the title unexpectedly came to be called as "the most difficult driving game ever" with many players walking away due to its difficult controllability. Although many players criticised the drifting acceleration, the difficulty of the title lay in the spin. It was unfortunate for the title while the focus of the criticism shifted from the challengeability to the taste for the drifting acceleration. There is an anecdote at the creation of the new version; Mr. Yu Suzuki (currently the President of YS NET Inc.) played the title which was ready to be released, and immediately denied it saying; "this is no good. Bring me a pencil and paper." After scribbling memo on the paper he said, "show this to Nagoshi (Toshihiro, Mr. currently the Creative Officer at Sega R&D) and tell him to fix this," and the machine characteristics changed dramatically in the new version. It has been said that Mr. Yu Suzuki claimed on the movement in the old version being oversteer on the acceleration. Now for the movies; the recommendation is in the advanced course. The "mowing" at the combination corner right before the second check point (being called as "Ranch Corner") and at the last corner is superb. At that time, Player Mr. D. H. and the influential player in the Chukyo (Nagoya) District Mr. AKI-RIN extended their battles at these corners. Next recommendation is in the beginner-night course. The recorded time in this movie is undeniably the Ultimate; you can watch the moment when the current world record was achieved! Check out the McLaren F1 dynamically drifting in the combined section from second corner to the third. The beginner-day course has the spot in the slow first corner; you need the best steering technique to go on line inside without killing the high entering speed. Finally the expert course; it is a rare opportunity to compare the driving in both old and new version. It seems to be the same record line, but you need to check out the different approaches tried in the courses. The master tape was recorded in 1997.
