Winter Temperatures And Your Snakes HD

On Gotta Love Carpet Pythons, the weather is starting to cool down now for me here in Australia and l was asked about temperatures over this time of the year. Generally the temps are maintained with what l use to heat the enclosures with but there are times when l need to have the heating going in the house itself. l dont mind the temps dropping by a couple of degrees naturally within their enclosures but you still need to maintain good heat levels for digestion for your snakes as well. If l feel it is going to get too cold overnight l will turn on the home heating before l go to bed as l know that the temps in their enclosures will drop too much and no matter your heat source this is normal and external heat is required to help maintain it. Out in the wild these guys are used to winter and cooler weather and just hunker down where they can stay warm and why they will hibernate during this time. This is something that l dont do with my snakes brumate them but l know that many do do this and many snakes whether you do brumate or not will go off feed naturally over the cooler period all by themselves and is nothing to worry about as when that weather starts to warm up they will start feeding again.
