Woe to you idolaters! You exchanged my truth for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than me. To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal? You have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug your own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. Although you wash yourself with soda and use an abundance of soap, the stain of your guilt is still before me. Woe to you idolaters! You claim to have fellowship with me yet walk in the darkness. You follow the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is at work in those who are disobedient. I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at my wrath, in the day of my burning anger. I will banish the names of the idols from the land, and they will be remembered no more. I will remove both the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever.
