Born and raised in Mexico, Carlos Gaytan is a leading force in what he calls “a revolution of the Mexican gastronomy.” Having been sidelined in the culinary world for years, this hot cuisine is sizzling towards the frontline and Carlos’ appearance on Celebrity MasterChef SA has given us a taste of what’s to come. His is a classic tale of culinary achievement. In 1991 Carlos moved to Chicago from Mexico, working his way up from a dishwasher to a line cook at the Sheraton North Shore Hotel. Throughout the years in USA’s Windy City, he built up an impressive repertoire before finally opening his own restaurant, Mexique, on Chicago Avenue in 2008.
