02.04.2016
This is the evaluation of the top 5 Linux distributions for elderly people based on our assessment of their needs and lifestyle. You can read the full story here: http://takacsmark.com/the-top-5-linux-systems-for-elderly-people/ We launch, showcase and evaluate the following Linux distributions in the video: - Puppy Linux (independent package praised by internet users) - Debian (one of the base Linux distributions, robust, mature and full featured) - Ubuntu (very popular, feature rich distro based on Debian) - Lubuntu (light distro, based on Ubuntu) - LinuxMint (simple and friendly distro based on Ubuntu) Plus we use Debian to show a couple of different desktop environments and see how they can fulfil the needs of elderly users: - GNOME 3 (full, user friendly desktop, one of the big names) - Mate (continuation of GNOME 2, preserving the clean old look) - Cinnamon (simple, clean and stylish, originally developed for LinuxMint) - KDE Plasma (another big name, flexible and familiar) - Unity (Ubuntu’s default, visually rich environment) - LXDE (lightweight and clean, good option for old hardware) - Xfce (another fast and light weight alternative) The video is based on internet research plus our family experience. We identified the most common needs of elderly PC users and prepared our article and video accordingly. The blog post contains a comparison why LinuxMint would be the best option to replace Windows 10 for senior users. ## Follow me on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/takacsmarkdotcom/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/takacsmark
