"The Emperor is playing the violin" — English subs and translation

17.08.2022
Soviet Union, 1987 The piercingly sad and mystically deep song of the famous Soviet bard Aleksandr Gorodnitskij about the tragic fate of the Russian Emperor Peter III Fyodorovich, who fell victim to the intrigues of his wife, Empress Catherine II. The song tells about one of the main hobbies of the ousted Czar - playing the violin, his phlegmatic and fatalistic attitude towards the doom awaiting him and how in the future the rebel Jemel’jan Pugachev would impersonate him, attracting many to his side in the name of the murdered legal Emperor. Peter III in the song of Gorodnitsij, thus, appears to be symbolically avenged, which gives this song an amazing tragedy and the most contradictory range of emotions. Portrayed by the All-Russian Emperor Peter III (1728—1762), grandson of Peter the Great, the first Czar from the House of Holstein-Gottorp-Romanov and the victim of the coup launched by his wife, Catherine II. LYRICS: Шорох волн набегающих слышен, И далёкое пенье трубы. Над
