China Cracks Down On Hong Kong On Tiananmen Massacre Anniversary HD

For the second year, China banned a planned public vigil in Hong Kong for the anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre — the crackdown on student-led democracy protests where the Chinese government killed hundreds of protesters. Under a national security law passed in 2020 that critics say dismantles the former “one country, two systems” policy, Hong Kong police are enforcing China’s ban. Hong Kong activists say the crackdown on Tiananmen Square observations is part of China’s agenda to erase the history of democracy protesters, including the Hong Kong democracy movement. Despite the ban and a heavy police presence, hundreds still gathered.
