Ozi and Ray on FRN received via the 446Mhz chn 6 sub 20 Norhumberland net
Personal FRN gateway with both radios set on the lowest possible power setting, gateway radio is the Yaesu FT817nd set on packet with a UD04YA interface (cheapest on ebay but works a treat on all applications) set up via instructions from Joeri on Radiohobby.ni big thanks to him he was very helpfull, antenna is just the little FT817nd rubber duck, laptop is an old Toshiba Satellite on XP home ed. RX/TX hand held radio is the Yaesu FT51r set to the closest frequency as it does not have the 6.25KHz step unlike the FT817nd so it is on 446.07Mhz instead of 446.06875 both radios using the ctcss code (20) which is 131.8. also using tone squelch to stop any background noise breakthrough. This is just a temp. setup as once we move qth I will setup with a dedicated frs or a pmr radio as the gateway and put the 817nd back into service as my 2m ssb and sat radio. I am very impressed with the FRN software and the users are very well behaved unlike some Ive heard on VHF 2m amateur radio (well done to the admin moderators) so if you are interested in radio as a hobby or just want to get more use out of your little licence free 446Mhz FSR radio have a look on the internet under FRN (free radio network) and see if any gateways exist in your area (please follow the posted radio etiquette rules and dont spoil it for others) if you only have a PC or laptop the FRN client software to connect to other radio and PC users via the internet is available free from many FRN websites and no licence is required. PS. you can also crosslink to this service on Zello via mobile phone. Have fun 73s Phil
