How to build a cheap and effective bird feeder for small birds. I had a bit of a problem with larger birds that would just pick through the feeder and flick most of it out onto the ground so I’m only feeding niger/nyjer seed. It seems to mostly attract finches and what falls on the ground is picked up by a few other species of native birds. Another benefit to me is that it isn’t favored by English Sparrows. Another reason I like this is for the convenience it offers. I don’t need to fill the feeder nearly as often and it keeps the niger that’s still in the bottle dry. The sock feeders are nice but if it rains they may not eat from it until you empty and refill it with fresh dry seed. I’ll add a little more info in the comments.
