The Rhodes performing, "The Way We Were" featuring The Allegro Orchestra
The Allegro Orchestra continues to stretch the boundaries of how classically trained young musicians can network with new and innovative venues. They certainly look like a classical orchestra, but the sound they generate seems younger and more like what you might expect at a rock concert. While not classical, the use of the classical language and technique to generate contemporary syntax of rhythm and chords executed in rapid staccato and syncopated beats is very unique with this energetic group. The tempo was sometimes fierce and even bluesy but never complacent. The results undoubtedly challenge the conventional definition of what strings are expected to sound like. Complacency is not to be either seen nor heard. Refreshing, really. The Allegro Youth Orchestra invites you to be part of this revolution! But if this difference challenges how one thinks and reaches new ideas, well, then Bravo! For those of us there that evening, it was certainly something unique and very memorable.
