When taking a time-lapse it is very important that the camera does not move or the effect well be spoilt intervalometer:an attachment or facility on a camera that operates the shutter regularly at set intervals over a period. On a cine camera the device is used for time-lapse photography. Common Time-lapse Intervals No two scenes are exactly alike, but these common intervals may give you a head start: 1 second intervals: Moving traffic Fast moving clouds Drivelapses 1 – 3 second intervals: Sunsets Sunrises Slower moving clouds Crowds Moon and sun near horizon (or telephoto) Things photographed with a telephoto 15 – 30 second intervals: Moving shadows Sun across sky (no clouds) (wide) Stars (15 – 60 seconds)For editing final cut pro x and many other software available day-Night Time-lapse Steps There are three different ways to approach day to night time-lapses which include: Shoot in APERTURE PRIORITY and de-flicker in post. Shoot at least one shot during the day and one at night and then BLEND IN POST. RAMP YOUR EXPOSURE / ISO. Location Camera Settings: There are two ways to shoot these sorts of time-lapses: aperture priority or manual adjustment. In both techniques I recommend leaving the white balance set to auto (although you can lock this as well). Make sure the keep the focus set to manual. In aperture priority mode, you simply let the camera adjust the shutter speed. However, the technique only works well when the sky is clear.
