If you are doing deadlift you are going to want to use what is called a "Trap bar". This makes for a much safer lift and takes a lot of the pressure off of your lower back. I hear too many stories of athletes hurting their lower backs and having chronic lower back pain due to improper deadlift. Regardless if you play basketball, football, baseball, soccer, etc...you NEED to be adding this almighty exercise to your current routine.
