(HD) Railfanning Portland - 7/11/15 - Cloudy and Comfy Afternoon Action HD

A cloudy, 72 degree day is as good of a time as any to railfan the Portland Oregon downtown area. Most of the shots in this video were shot at or near Portland Union Station. Lots of K5LA action in this one! Thank you for tuning in. I hope you enjoy. Train 1 - 00:16 Oregon Pacific 1413, a GMD-1, patiently idles waiting for its next excursion run east. Train 2 - 00:31 A Union Pacific stack train slowly approaches Albina Yard on the north bank of the Willamette River at 3:58 pm. You can tell this train startled me a bit at 00:59. ES44AC #8074 AC45CCTE #5415 AC44CW #6586 I could not film the rest of the train, as I had to rush across the Steel Bridge to Catch the departure of Amtrak #14. Train 3 - 1:28 Amtrak Coast Starlight #14 sitting on track 5 at Union Station being serviced for its last leg up to Seattle. Train 4 - 1:36 Same train as stated earlier, now departing track 5 headed to Seattle, with its next station stop being Vancouver Wa. The crossing we are at is a "Quiet Zone". This engineer blasted his K5LA at us anyway! Always a nice treat. Passed by us at 4:25pm, about 12 minutes off the mark. P42DC #148 P42DC #186 Train 5 - 3:46 Portland and Western Railway 663 heading east through the station at around 4:30pm. This train eventually came to a stop at a red signal before it was all of the way through the crossing, forcing us to re-locate to another location to catch Amtrak #28. GP39-2 #2309 GP39-2 #2312 GP39-2 #2315 Train 6 - 4:57 Same train - PNWR 663 - still waiting for a green signal up ahead as it occupies both mains. The impatient people will be impatient... and trespass. Train 7 - 5:28 Amtrak Empire Builder #28 accelerates west to Vancouver Wa after leaving Union Station just seconds prior right on time. This train will link up with its sister train, #8, in Spokane to become the full 11 car Empire Builder destined for Chicago. I apologize for some focus issues with this clip. The lights on the locomotive were tripping out my camera. P42DC #99 Train 8 - 6:07 Back at the Depot, Amtrak Cascades #507 idles on track 4 after getting in 25 minutes early, causing me to miss the arrival. 507 has double the F59 power today. The sound cuts out in this short clip for an unknown reason. F59PHI #468 F59PHI #465 Train 9 - 6:24 Quick Decision Catch! This Cascades train was sent to the Wye north of the station to get turned around because of problems with the NPCU. The train returned to Union Station way quicker than I thought it would, hence me not being as ready as I wanted to be for the shot. F59PHI #466 F40PH NPCU #90340 Train 10 - 7:35 A brand new phase 5 Tri-Met MAX train pulls into the Union Station transit stop. Train 11 - 7:48 Amtrak #507 seconds after departure from Union Station on time at 6:05pm. This trains next stop is Oregon City, with a southbound terminus of Eugene.
