All aboard the Hawkeye Express! HD

04.11.2008
The Hawkeye Express serves the Iowa City community on football Saturdays by bringing thousands of fans from outlying parking lots to Iowa football games in a fast, fun way. The Hawkeye Express, provided by Iowa Northern Railway Company in conjunction with UI Athletics, is a service that is unique to the University of Iowa and recalls the first half of the 20th century when people from all around took trains to historic Kinnick Stadium to see the Hawkeyes play. Passengers on the Hawkeye Express leave the driving to the Hawkeyes and ride in luxury from parking areas conveniently located minutes off Interstate 80 near Coral Ridge Mall in nearby Coralville to the southwest corner of historic Kinnick Stadium. Parking is free and the round-trip train service costs just $10 per person with children 12 and under riding for free. Service to Kinnick Stadium - a 10-minute ride - begins 3 hours prior to kickoff. Service post-game begins at the start of the fourth quarter and continues until 90 minutes after the game. Tickets for the Hawkeye Express can be purchased in advance at the UI Athletic Ticket Office in Carver-Hawkeye Arena and the Iowa City/Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau Visitors Information Desk at Coral Ridge Mall. Tickets will also be available for purchase on game-day upon arrival at the Hawkeye Express depot. The Hawkeye Express is not wheelchair accessible. On game days, patrons with disabilities restricting their mobility are invited to use the parking spaces reserved in Hospital Ramp #2 and limited space in the lot directly north of Kinnick Stadium. For more information about the Hawkeye Express call the UI Sports Marketing Office at (319) 335-9431 or the UI Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800 IA-HAWKS.
