Originally I had planned to make this into a mini-series, moving onto DiRT 3 and (eventually) DiRT Showdown. However, two things quickly put a stop to that: 1) DiRT 3’s crash physics were vastly toned down compared to DiRT 2’s, making the crashes a lot less violent. 2) I couldn’t find any half-decent instrumental rock-techno music in a similar style to “This Way (Demo)”, the song I used in “DeRP 2”. So that kinda fell through in the end. Fast-forward four years, and two interesting things happen. Firstly, Shift 2: Unleashed is £5 in the Steam sales. “Screw it”, I thought, “Five quid for a fun little timewaster”. Boot it up, complete the first races, then accidentally run wide on a corner and the car starts rolling. Holy. Fuck. The physics engine has a fit at that. Car parts everywhere, an AI driver clips through the goddamn world, it’s havoc. It’s beautiful. Secondly, I binge-play through “Super Hot” again and notice that it’s getting a full Steam version. Have a look at the Greenlight trailer and the music hooks me, in exactly the same way as “This Way” did. Finally, I get an idea. “DeRP 2” was one of the few videos that I truly enjoyed making from start to finish. It hardly has any views, it’s a pile of crap, but it was FUN to make. So here you guys go. It’s short, it’s awful, it’s generic, but screw you all I had a brilliant time making it. Thanks for bearing with me, and thanks for reading this far. Finally, shout out to Woody for being the spastic, cocaine-addled BMW M3 that he is.
