Guitar: Soon May the Wellerman Come (Including lyrics and chords)
This is the second song requested by Ken Shuttlesworth recently and tells the tale of a whaling ship out of New Zealand and its struggle with a particularly large whale. Weller Bros, of Sydney, Australia, were the major shore-whaling company in southern New Zealand in the 1830s and 40s. They had stations at Otakau (Dunedin), Tautuku, Bluff (and others). Over the years they had several ships, which serviced these stations. The "Wellerman" referred to is the boat/skipper bringing supplies to the stations, and taking away the oil accumulated since the last visit. (Personally, I am pleased that whaling has been banned by international agreement.) For anybody not familiar with the chord DaddG I am playing it as a normal D with the little finger at the 4th fret on the first string: xoo234 On adding the annotations, I realised that I had got a bit tongue-tied in the second verse. The lyrics shown on screen are the correct ones.
