It first flew in 2003. Under United Parcel Service - UPS Airlines, the accident aircraft was registered as "N155UP". At the time of the accident the aircraft was 9 years old. The accident aircraft was equipped with two Pratt & Whitney PW4158 engine(s). Air Accident/Incident Overview: On the 14th of August, 2013, UPS Airlines Flight 1354 was preparing to land on runway 18 at Birmingham–Shuttlesworth International Airport in Birmingham, Alabama, United States of America. The accident aircraft was flying from Louisville International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky, United States of America. On board the aircraft were just the 2 pilots. As the aircraft prepared to land it crashed 1000 meters short of runway 18. Both pilots died. The aircraft clipped trees, and hit the ground three times. The fuselage broke apart with the nose coming to rest about 180 meters away from where the aircraft initially hit the ground. The accident aircraft caught on fire. Investigative Overview: The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that the probable cause of this accident was the flight crew’s continuation of an unstabilized approach and their failure to monitor the aircraft’s altitude during the approach, which led to an inadvertent descent below the minimum approach altitude and subsequently into terrain.
