Induction forging melting iron steel
After a few modifications I can melt a 4 lb billet of iron, getting it to boil with a 240vac/30A line. The induction heater can withstand the entire load being removed at full power. The unit will detune to maintain a 50A maximum current in case the load is removed. The uP maintains a resonant lock under all conditions. In this video the thermal insulation is rated for close to 3000F, yet it catches fire at the end. The stream of sparks from the iron is seen at temperatures over 2700-2800F when the carbon is heated out of the iron. This is usually seen only in an oxygen injected industrial furnace, and I am doing it in my garage! Schematics are at http://www.mindchallenger.com/inductionheater
