Top-spec models have full-LED lights and the daytime running lights double as indicators for a distinctive front-end look. Optionally, the LED headlights can dim automatically to avoid dazzling drivers coming the other way. The T-Roc gets chunky wheelarches that hint at its mild off-road ability – 4Motion four-wheel drive is standard on the most powerful petrol and diesel engines. If you go for a T-Roc Style model, the roof will be painted in a contrasting colour helping it stand out even more. T-Roc Sport models can also have a contrasting roof but it’s an optional extra. At the back, the brakelights are reminiscent of the ones fitted to the larger Tiguan. The rest of the rear-end design, however, is bolder than any other SUV that VW currently sells. T-Roc Style models get a silver accent in the rear diffuser while T-Roc Sport models have chrome exhaust tips. It all looks modern and fresh but the fake honeycomb air vents in the back won’t be to everyone’s taste. 2018 VW T-Roc interior A large strip of plastic stretches across the dashboard and, depending on the model you go for, comes in a variety of colours. The colorful inserts continue down the centre console and can be seen in the doors as well – a far cry from the restrained interiors of VW’s more mainstream models. As standard, the T-Roc gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system borrowed from the Golf, meaning it’s responsive and also one of the easiest touchscreen systems to use while on the move. Move up to the mid-range eight-inch system with a glass screen and you get the option of VW’s App Connect that adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirrorlink. The mid-range system also comes with a CD player but sat nav isn’t available. You need to move to the top-spec infotainment system – also eight-inches in size – to get satellite navigation.
