In a clash for the Undisputed World Middleweight Championship, the undefeated 26 year old former Light Middleweight Olympic Bronze Medalist Jermain Taylor aka “Bad Intentions” takes on “The Executioner” Bernard Hopkins who defends his IBF, WBA, WBC & WBO World Middleweight Titles. Prefight records; Hopkins 46(32)-2-1, Taylor 23(17)-0. Entering his 23rd world title fight, the seasoned Bernard had notable triumphs over the likes of Segundo Mercado, John David Jackson, Glen Johnson, Simon Brown, Carl Daniels, Antwun Echols, Syd Vanderpool, William Joppy, Keith Holmes, Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya & Robert Allen (2x). Both fighters were mostly inactive in round 7, but Hopkins landed a strong right hand on Taylor who was showing early signs of fatigue. In round 8, Bernard landed a flush left hook upstairs but Jermain returned fire with higher volume and connect rate once again to win the round. Having sensed the urgency, Hopkins showed greater aggression in round 9 but Taylor continued to outwork him with punches in bunches to offset the few good moments he had. For the most part of round 10, neither fighter were very effective but with about 1 minute left to the bell Bernard connected with a monstrous straight right hand followed by more lead rights that wobbled the visibly tired Jermain, who courageously fought back despite being hurt a number of times. This was the first time in 24 career bouts that the Arkansas native was dragged into deep waters. In the last 6 minutes, Hopkins stepped on the gas pedal where he shook Taylor in a few occasions and there were moments where it looked as though a stoppage was imminent but the challenger showed tremendous fighting heart by digging deep and
