At this juncture of their careers, the 45 year old Bernard was ranked the No. 3 Light Heavyweight by The Ring Magazine while 41 year old Roy (a 3.5-1 betting underdog) was unranked by the same publication. Prefight records; Jones 54(40)-6, Hopkins 50(32)-5-1. Although Hopkins is 4 years older, he showed little to no decline in his reflexes and mobility while Jones had apparently lost most of his legendary quickness largely due to moving down nearly 20 pounds from Heavyweight to Light Heavyweight after his victory over John Ruiz to win the WBA Heavyweight Title in March 1993. After beating Ruiz, Roy went 6(2)-5 between November 2003 and December 2009 while Hopkins had a 8(1)-3 run around that same period. Entering the bout, The Alien had won world titles at Middleweight & Light Heavyweight with commendable victories over Lupe Aquino, Simon Brown, Keith Holmes, Antwun Echols, Carl Daniels, John David Jackson, Glen Johnson, Enrique Ornelas, Winky Wright, Antonio Tarver, William Joppy, Kelly Pavlik, Beibut Shumenov, Tavoris Cloud, Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Jean Pascal & Robert Allen (2x). On the other hand, Captain Hook was Quadruple World Champion at Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Light Heavyweight & Heavyweight with notable wins over the likes of Vinny Pazienza, Mike McCallum, Montell Griffin, Lou Del Valle, Tony Thornton, Jorge Vaca, Thomas Tate, Glenn Wolfe, Otis Grant, Eric Harding, Eric Lucas, Antonio Tarver, Jorge Castro Fernando, Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Merqui Sosa, Richard Hall, Clinton Woods, Felix Trinidad, Thulani Malinga, Virgil Hill, Bernard Hopkins, James Toney & John Ruiz. Overall, the fight went the way most expected; Bernard prevailed over his faded longtime rival with his superb ring craft where he masterfully utilized feints to get in the inside and pin him on the ropes where he effectively connect upstairs and downstairs ,while Roy only managed to connect with occasional right hands but they were few and far in between. However, the most memorable moments were a number of interruptions as a result of dirty fighting by both fighters which caused minutes-long delays; 1)At the 2:50 mark in round 6, Hopkins was hit behind the head and crumbled to the canvas on his knees which prompted referee Tony Weeks to deduct a point from Jones. When action was resumed later, Bernard rushed towards Roy with barrage of shots and continued hitting after the bell which caused security personnel and corner men from both camps to enter the ring to
