A day out in: Würzburg

17.03.2007
I visited the historic city of Würzburg (stopping on the way at Veitshöchheim for ice-cream) to admire the old fortress and the gall of modern architects. The city is testament to the wealth and political power of the Church in times gone by; for centuries Würzburg was ruled by a Prince-Bishop, and this period has left its indelible mark. Incidentally, after WWII, the plan was to leave Würzburg desolate, a huge "ghost city" as a reminder of the war. This plan was rejected, and the city rebuilt.
