Technological automation can give your work a purpose | Dani Sandu | TEDxBucharest HD

27.05.2017
On the whole, each technological revolution in history has made our lives collectively better, working fewer hours, living longer and more comfortably, but it has also left chimney sweepers, elevator operators, horse carriage drivers and others temporarily confused and jobless. As we are now on the cusp of what is widely expected to be the broadest technological revolution in history, we inevitably wonder what will happen to the people who will be left without jobs because of automation and technological development. During a taxi ride, sociologist Dani Sandu starts wondering about these questions. What if instead of dealing with hundreds of millions of people who will be left without a job, we can use the progress and prosperity unleashed by technological innovation to fundamentally shape a new world? Technology can be an opportunity to change the concept of work and give everybody the chance to do what they love and eventually find a way to monetize their ideas. Wouldn’t it be wonderful for all of us to be able to only work to find purpose? A keen interest in people and how they choose to live has led Dani to an endless quest to understand. After researching cultures and trends all across the world, he has come to realize that the more you know about the past, the more you can expect from the future. Apart from his more recent activity in public policy and research, he also has a working experience in political campaigns, having worked in multiple campaigns in Romania and for the Barack Obama re-election campaign of 2012, in Ohio. Since returning to Romania, Dani has worked with multiple NGOs and private sector initiatives to increase political participation, improve civic culture and offer social protection to the underprivileged. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
